HCSC Session 5 & 6 Update
Welp, summer camp up at High Cascade is officially over. The last two sessions went by so fast that it seemed like they meshed into one. The snow held up enough for the last few weeks so that we could still offer a full park, and you could still ride down to the bottom of the mountain without much hiking. We had tons of campers that were still very stoked to come up and snowboard during the final weeks of summer. There was plenty of action going on with the videograss crew during session 5, and it seemed like that had the biggest amount of kids who were seriously psyched to be there. Tons of rail maneuvers went down and I’m not sure if there are many new never-been-done tricks left to even try any more. I’m pretty sure every 360 on was done and maybe even some 540s on. Crazy stuff these days… The quarterpipe lasted until the end of session 5 and gained a couple features within itself like the extension, a second side, hip, deathbox, coping, and different pole jam variations. With all of that and the down rail zone right next to the digger zone, there were plenty of spectators who were kept entertained all day long. We also added another butter pad to make a double butter box with all kids of different options. Session 5 probably saw the best park all summer with all of the crazy additions and options to everything.
I think usually by session 6 the summer is already over. People start losing motivation to snowboard, getting burned out, and stop working as hard. This year was a little different. The motivation level was pretty high since it still felt like mid summer with all the leftover snow. We continued offering different options on most of the features to keep it fresh, and we brought the mailboxes back into action. I dont think mailboxes have ever seen that much action before. The photo and video campers also had their session which meant we also had the big camp night shoot. Jake Knigge was up there and got some really cool sunset shots. Knigge destroyed pretty much everything in his path during the last two sessions, including a high finish in the spin cycle classic where he completed almost all four rotations from 180 to 900. Max Warbington also earned a top 5 spot after landing almost every spin he tried with insane style. Those guys killed it all summer and I can definitely say it was a treat watching and taking some photos of both of them. Well that’s all Ive got to report from HCSC this year. I had an amazing time all summer snowboarding, skating, hanging, camping, having fires, etc etc and I met plenty of amazing people and saw some crazy stuff go down. I hope everyone can join me next summer up at High Cascade and have as much fun as I’ve had.
