New Year Update from Mikey Wier

Happy New Year.  Hope everyone is doing well and recovering from a happy and healthy holiday season.

Conditions have been great here in Tahoe.  The backcountry has been the best it’s been in years.  Split boarding is my new favorite way to facilitate my addiction to snowboarding.  The exercise, solitude, companionship, quality of snow and terrain make it the perfect way to spend a day. Yesterday Chris Edmonds, Canyon Florey and i hiked to a new zone deep in the wilderness.  No one we know had ever ridden any of these lines.   It was a long hike in and another long hike and sketchy climb up the face.  I was gripped as we looked over the edge from the top down into the face for the first time.  Luckily we took some photos from the bottom that we could reference to find our way through all the steep exposure.  Only got two runs each but it was two of the best runs of our season.  Well worth the efforts and those memories will last forever. We’ve been doing at least one big tour a week.  Systematically bagging new peaks and riding new lines.  One of the highlights of this week was getting some footage of a rare black tip weasel in the snow.  Attached are a few photos from the past couple weeks and some of the amazing lines and beautiful places our feet have taken us to.

Best of wishes for the coming year.
