It’s Almost Alaska Time!

Valdez, Alaska – February 8, 2011 – Tailgate Alaska is blowing up! Set to return to Thompson Pass from March 25 until April 10, 2011, this year’s event promises more educational opportunities, parties, formal and informal competitions and entertainment for all. For two weeks each spring, dedicated recreational riders, professional athletes and the industry gather to ride the world’s best mountains and deepest snow conditions at Tailgate Alaska.

Tailgate Alaska is a ticketed event – according to event founder Mark Sullivan, “This year we have really stepped up our game and become official – we are permitted and bonded with the state, build our own venues, and provide the infrastructure for hundreds of people to survive in the remote Alaska wilderness.”

Calling Thompson Pass, ‘wilderness’ is a little misleading – for the past 20 years, the corridor of highway and mountains that surround the Tailgate Alaska basecamp have served as proving grounds for the worlds best skiers and riders. With mountains that rise from basecamp in all directions, Tailgate Alaska is the hub in the middle of the world’s best backcountry.

Tickets to the event have been selling rapidly. According to founder Mark Sullivan, “Last year we had riders from 13 countries attend the event – this year we expect a few more- it really is an international gathering made up of some of the most core athletes in the World.”

Tailgate Alaska also plays host to the World Freeriding Championships – The World Extreme Skiing Championships (the world’s first big mountain event celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2011) and the King of the Hill (snowboarding’s original freeride event). Tailgate Alaska is scheduled for March 25 – April 10, 2010.

The best part is, YOU are invited to come and participate. Tickets to the event are still available through www.tailgatealska.com for $195. The price of admission includes access to all Tailgate Alaska activities, the beer garden, daily BBQ, snow science classes, and a lot more.
