Q&A

How was your summer? I had an awesome summer. I spent most of it up at Mt. Hood Coaching at HCSC. It was my first summer doing that and if you like snowboarding all the time then it's the best summer job you could have. You make a little money, snowboard a ton, and meet a lot of amazing people. Now I'm back home in Crested Butte catching up with friends, backpacking and jumping in some lakes. Relaxing for a sec before I start working again. Which board have you been riding this season? Any other Lib product? I spent most of my winter on the TRS which is the best all around board I have ever ridden. I literally didn't change my board size or bring my stance back all winter and rode everything from park laps to powder to slaloms and ice. C2 is a way of life! But all summer I mainly rode the Skunk Ape. Nice and wide. That's what I like on slush. I've been riding some of the new Lib outerwear and the goggles. Waterproof and warm is the name of the game. Being wrapped up in Lib from head to toe has never felt better! Where are you calling home base this season? I'm going to be hanging out in Crested Butte early season. Hopefully split boarding a bunch, and riding the resort a little bit too. Hopefully making it to some opening days in the front range, possibly the Legend, Arapahoe Basin. After the holidays I'm jumping in my truck and driving around to a bunch of different places on the western slope. Oregon, Washington, Utah...hoping to head to Alaska in the Spring! What are you looking forward to this winter? A bunch of stuff, man. Meeting up with tons of people and having some good times in the mountains. For sure looking forward to meeting up with everyone at the LBS! I love hanging out up there and riding that course. Always a treat to be up there. What is the first trip you have planned this fall? In a week or two I'm going to head to Boulder and do some skateboarding and meet up with all my buds that go to school out there. Got some catching up to do. Who do you look up to in snowboarding? I look up to so many people in snowboarding. Some major people that influence me would be Josh Dirkson, Travis Parker, Giom, Chris Engelsman most people from the Robot Food films. All the people I grew up riding with in Crested Butte who still do ride. Do you have a crew? Not really, I have a lot of different people I go snowboarding with. I move around a bunch so I get to go out with a good variation of people. Lots of people from Salt Lake, Bend, the Warbington brothers are always awesome to board with...actually this summer at Mt. Hood we had a bit of a crew, the Birdhouse crew. If you haven't heard of us, give it some time, you might. How would you describe your riding style? Not to sure...whenever I strap in I just like to go for it. I like to link hits together and just ride down the hill and not stop. I like going fast and finding gaps and not think about anything else than what I'm doing right then. Just stuff like that. Do you have any snowboarding superstitions or habits? Can't really think of any right now, but I might do something and not even know. What trick is the most fun for you? That's hard to narrow it down to one trick...a backflip has always felt pretty good to me, front threes too. And a nice no impact landing, like if a gap just matches right up first try. That's the best. Where is your favorite place to snowboard? If the snow is deep I would have to say Baker... That's hard though because Crested Butte is really good too when it's been snowing a lot. They are way different with powder so it's a tough call. What videos did you film with this season? I tried to do a little filming with the Wild Card guys up in the northwest. I hung out after the slalom with a few of those guys and they showed me around some cool spots. It was awesome. Those guys are super nice and know what they're doing. What is the most radical banana riding you've ever done? The Birdman is the most radical banana I have ever ridden. This board is insane. I've only taken it out two times, once on hard pack just to see what it was like and once on a good 2 foot powder day. This board floats and surfs around so smooth but can turn on a dime. It's insane how much board control you can get on this board on account of the size. Do you prefer short, wide, or big bananas? I like a good big wide banana. Are you competing in any contests this coming season? Nothing is 100% yet but I have some ideas and plans for sure. Hoping to be up at the Slalom for sure. And the Derby too! More is in the works... Will you be racing in the Legendary Banked Slalom this year? Who do you think will win? I sure hope I am up there. It's the best couple days of my season for sure. I love it up there. I got some money on Logy B, Harry Kearny for a repeat of last year. The Warbington Brothers have some jets too. What are some of your other hobbies? I just like to hang out outside most of the time. Hiking around, swimming around in lakes, jumpin' off rope swings, skateboarding a bunch, taking road trips, sleepin' on couches. Pretty much anything. Stuff like that. What would you say is the best part about riding for Lib Tech? The best part about riding for Lib Tech is the quality of the boards and all the people involved with the process of making the boards. Handmade snowboards made by snowboarders is something rare these days. You have to appreciate everything that goes into Lib Tech. Thank you Lib, you're the best! Last words? Keep rockin' in the free world Lib Tech! Can't wait to meet up and board with a bunch of the Mervin family. Hoping for some good snow coming this winter and see you on the slopes amigos...
