Two years of filming, riding, directing, praying, stomping, coordinating, traveling, negotiating and... 300 hours of footage, helicopters filming helicopters filming snowboarders on surf trips... Travis and Curt took some time off their edit to answer some questions...

When and how did the idea for the Travis movie come from?
Travis: I think the idea to make this film came directly as we were finishing Community Project 4 years ago.
Curt: Yeah, I just couldn’t get enough, we knew we could step it up.

How is it different from other snowboard movies that are being made/ have been made?
Travis: How is Magne-Traction different from a standard radial sidecut ???
Curt: It has cinematography that could make a grown man cry and snowboarding that could very well bring down the walls of Jericho.

What is the budget for this movie? And where did it come from?
Travis: It’s a Mack Dawg budget, but spread over two years. I think one of the most creative parts to this film was actually how money was spent!
Curt: We probably should have spent more money than we did. We got so much help from so many people that believed in the project.

What is/was your sales pitch for this movie?
Travis: We want to make a great snowboard film!
Curt: Travis + snowboarding + 2 parts gin = Deal

Curt Morgan carries the load.
Travis scouting for good wood.
Cut, cut, cut...

Has the magnitude of this kind of project created any bad side effects (sleepless nights, fear, nervous twitching...)?
Travis: All of the above and then some. That’s part of the beauty of it.
Curt: Yeah, sometimes I feel a bit of pressure but this has been my favorite project to work on so far and I hope it’s just the beginning of a new breed of film.

What was one or some of the most difficult moments you encountered making this movie?
Travis: Logistics, and bribing God for conditions.
Curt: I would agree. You spend months planning a shoot, you’re locked in, you’ve rolled the dice and BOOM, bad weather, camera problems, bird flu. I blame Canada!

What was the scariest moment that happened during filming?
Travis: The release date just over the horizon.
Curt: Watching Travis get in this one avalanche in Alaska.

What was the funniest moment/experience, either of you had during the making of this movie?
Travis: Taking an entire trip to Canada to get Pat Moore to try to ride my sled a mile across a deep ass lake!
Curt: Yep, that shot could have been a down payment on a house!

Where and when can the general public enjoy this movie?
Travis: um, the web site for our world tour is:
www.THATSIT-THATSALL.com
Curt: There will be a full world tour and it will be for sale in almost every snowboard and skate shop on earth.

In retrospect, what would you do differently if you had to do it over again? And would you?
Travis: So far it’s gone really well. With the clairvoyance of hindsight there are several trips I would have definitely skipped!
Curt: I probably would have done a surf film.

Did anyone get hurt during the making of this movie?
Travis: After watching the Forum teaser I was like damn, everyone just broke themselves for this thing. That’s when it dawned on me that no one was injured over the two years of production on this thing. There were however some definite bullets dodged.
Curt: SAFE! yelled the umpire.

Describe the kind of equipment used during the filming (cameras, film, boards, materials etc...) :
Travis: A whole bunch of wicked new shit!
Curt: Cineflex (from Planet Earth, Discovery Channel) WesCam 35mm from Pictorvision, Super 35mm and 16mm film, HVX200 and Ex1 with 35mm adapters and that’s just the start.

Curt, what is your film background (where did you learn what you know)?
Curt: I grew up snowboarding with Travis but broke my back. I decided to go to film school and diversify the portfolio. Just out of school I got a job shooting a Documentary on Elves in Iceland, Seriously! From there Danny Kass was starting Grenade so I moved to mammoth and Partnered with Jared Slater and made the first couple Grenade movies. From there Travis called me up…Community Project, Separate volume, Who cares, The Constant Struggle, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Rush HD, Fuel Tv and now this.

Who is doing the editing and how much footage does he/she have to compress? What programs do you use to edit?
Travis: I backseat drive!
Curt: I use Final Cut Pro to do all of my editing. This project will have about 300 hours of footage. This is where things get tricky. If you know any sick editors call me.

Who all helped, worked on, produced this movie?
Travis: Circe Wallace, our Jamming film crew, Gabe Lanlois, Also bought beers for Brody Thompson, Jared Slater and Coach. Wink Ink, Modern Digital, Pictorvision.
Curt: The crew was super small. Circe ep’d the movie, I produced, directed and edited. Gabe and I shot and hired a few epic hands along the way. Travis is super into movie making so that was a big help to have his support as well.

Thanks/props to?
Travis: Circe Wallace, Quiksilver and Red Bull made the dream a reality, Pictorvision, Lib Tech and DC, my MOM!, Wink Ink, Jackson Hole Mnt. Resort, H20 HelliGuides in Valdez, Mammoth Mnt., Snowboarder Mag.
Curt: God (mostly) Quiksilver and Red Bull. Circe Wallace for making this a reality. Bob McKnight, Ryan Hollis and Brian Craighill @ Quiksilver. Chris Matter, Josh Kendrick and Scotty Bradfield @ Red Bull. Jason and Ellen @ Wink inc. Mark Hryma, John Trapman and Peter Thompson for the best aerials EVER! My amazingly supportive wife, Tiffany. My parents, Curt and Linda Morgan. Pictorvision and Ron Chapple for being the raddest guy in Hawaii! Gabe Langlois and my crew and all of the above that Travis mentioned. I could keep going but this Zine isn’t 3000 pages. Thanks to all that helped so much to make this project possible!!!!!!!!
