Q&A

Headphones or No headphones when you are riding?
Occasionally when I am riding solo I’ll listen to music, but generally headphones annoy me and interfere with sounds from the mountain that can be crucial to your health. I prefer to ride powder and I like to hear what the snow is doing underneath my board and around me at all times. If you knock off a good sized sluff or anything fractures and you have headphones on, you are not as likely to hear the release and will have less time to react and less understanding of where release is coming from and where it is going. I just try to make sure I listen to a few good jams before I get to the mountain so my internal stereo is on a good playlist.

Best trip of last season?
I had a few great trips last year… Chile this summer with Lucas Debari, Matt Edgers and Forrest Burki was the rawest trip I took last season. Full speed and ripping for a month. It would snow every few days and then turn blue, we met friends we never knew we had, ate pounds of meat straight off the barbecue and surfed some big point breaks with no one else around. Chile is epic.

Worst trip of last season?
Ummm, tripping out in an emergency room in Chile after cartwheeling through a field of rocks that had been hidden by a meter of new snow.  Watch out for snow sharks in South America.

Who is your favorite person(s) to snowboard with?
Anyone who likes to ride fast, explore, and doesn’t mind skipping lunch. If you stop halfway through a powder run to regroup with your six friends, I want nothing to do with you.

Favorite type of terrain?
Powder stacked high on top of pillows and sticking to the steepest of spines with trees here and there for contrast.

What is your favorite Lib board to shred?
Either a TRS C2BTX or Jamie C2BTX.

Summertime activities?
Travel, my girlfriend, surf and skateboard as much as possible, and party.

Diesel, Gas, or BioDiesel?
My Truck runs off gas, but I would like to come up on a diesel van at some point soon.

Iphone or Blackberry?
Rain forrest wireless and a pocket full of jewels.

Next Trip?
I believe Italy with photog/music man Scott Sullivan and a list of riders soon to be determined.

Split-board or Snowshoes?
They both have their place in the backcountry. Snowshoes are great for short hikes and building jumps, but if you are going to mission way out, the split-board is the key.

Gloves or Mittens?
Gloves. Mittens make me feel claustrophobic.

BTX or C2BTX?
C2BTX is the best snowboard construction I have ever rode. It has the float of a rocker board with the power and pop of a cambered board. So good.

Last Words?
Thank you Sean “Donnkie” Mansfield, for the opportunity to witness one of the most bewildering performances I believe I will ever see. On and off the snow, no one did it like the Donk. A true original.
